Jiko is a fusion restaurant located in the Tribe hotel, one of the finest boutique hotels in Nairobi, Kenya and the food there did not disappoint us. The pork terrine, light tuna mayonnaise with olive oil, sautéed fennel and poached mixed vegetables was beautifully presented. The texture of the terrine is slightly dry but the tuna mayonnaise compliments it perfectly. The braised golden onion with confit, fresh thyme, deep-fried cherry tomatoes and norcia black truffles was a wonderfully surprising dish, full of flavor. It’s my absolute favorite dish on the menu, and that’s saying a lot from a non-onion fan! The black truffles were not overpowering, but rather added an aromatic dimension to the overall flavor of the dish. The vegetable charcoal ravioli filled with Herbed Ricotta cheese, sage butter was a delicious, fresh-tasting, light pasta. The freshly made ravioli was filled with a creamy ricotta and sage butter, assuming a light smokiness from the charcoal. At last, the plank-grilled teriyaki salmon, fresh seasonal vegetables served pink and moist with a teriyaki glazing, the salmon adopted the aromatic flavor of cedar which was married perfectly with the teriyaki and it was hearty and delicate. If you ever travel to Kenya, you should definitely give this restaurant a try!!!
