I was lucky enough to be taken to L’anima by a dear friend of mine, and he is lucky enough to be a very good friend of Chef Francesco Mazzei, BBC’s Masterchef and the Chef Patron of L’anima restaurant in London.
I felt like Cinderella! Granted I was in the company of my friend, a very hot Italian man , Chef Francesco Mazzei and his little helpers faffing all over us to make sure we were wined and dined like Kings and Queens. The food blew my mind away. The Italians know their food like they know how to dress, and its buzzy happy customers speak for itself.
There were no menus for us but instead we were brought the Chef’s favorites. We started off with some cold Prosecco, followed by another delicious and crisp white wine. Starters were artichoke salad with Roka lemon and goat cheese, and a soupy meaty clear broth with tortellini. Main course was Osso Buco with saffron risotto, and for dessert we had Mandarin and passion fruit sorbet. These dishes were so amazingly fresh, flavorful and authentic. Francesco imports most of his products straight from Italy. Through our conversations, you can feel Francesco’s love for food is so evident – it’s refreshing to see someone’s passion so alive.
The decor of the restaurant is elegant and calming, the light pours in from the windows, the wine cellar is impressive and the service is smiley and generous.
L’anima means “soul” in Italian and my soul was definitely alive and kicking…
